Does Payarmin contain alcohol? What the label lists

Quick answer

Does Payarmin contain alcohol? The label lists no alcohol or ethanol among its nine other ingredients, and it never says alcohol free. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, not the drinking kind. What the label does not say is how the plant extracts and natural flavors were made.

The flat Payarmin label with the Other Ingredients line under the Supplement Facts panel
The real label. The Other Ingredients line has nine items and none is alcohol.

The list

Is alcohol listed on the Payarmin label?

No. The nine other ingredients are glycerin, water, organic lemon extract, stevia extract 97% (Reb A), xylitol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid and natural flavors. None is ethanol.

The label also does not say alcohol free. Silence is not the same as a promise.

Two different things

Listing no alcohol is a fact about the label. Saying alcohol free is a claim about the product. The label makes only the first.

Word check

Does a sugar alcohol like xylitol count as alcohol?

No. Sugar alcohol is a chemical class, not a drink. Xylitol does not contain ethanol and cannot make you drunk.

The name trips people up. Xylitol is still dangerous to dogs (Paws Off Xylitol per FDA).

Words on the label that sound like alcohol

XylitolA sugar alcohol used as a sweetenerNo
GlycerinA syrupy base liquidNo
Organic lemon extractA citrus extract for tasteNot stated
Plant extracts in the blendConcentrates of plant partsNot stated
Natural flavorsFlavoring, not namedNot stated

The open question

Could the extracts in Payarmin be made with alcohol?

They could be. Liquid extracts and flavors are sometimes made with alcohol as a solvent or carrier. The label does not say how any of Payarmin’s were made.

Twelve plant extracts sit in the 200 mg blend, and the label prints no single amount (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Any trace would be unknown.
